Our client wanted to reimagine meal planning for people who are tired of generic diet apps. Their vision was an app that truly understands individual tastes, dietary restrictions, and budget — then generates weekly meal plans that people actually want to cook and eat. Not a calorie counter, but a personal food assistant that gets smarter with every interaction.

The Challenge

Most meal planning apps fall into one of two traps: they're either too generic (the same chicken breast and broccoli for everyone) or too demanding (hours of manual input before you see any value). The client needed a design that made personalization feel effortless — capturing preferences through an engaging onboarding experience, then delivering plans that genuinely reflect how each person likes to eat, what they can afford, and what dietary needs they have.

The Solution

We designed a mobile experience centered around an adaptive taste profile builder — a game-like onboarding flow that captures food preferences without feeling like a questionnaire. The AI explains why each meal is suggested, building trust in the recommendations. A drag-and-drop meal canvas lets users easily swap and customize their weekly plan. Contextual nutrition insights appear alongside meals rather than in a separate dashboard, and a smart shopping list integrates with local store data to keep grocery runs efficient and budget-friendly.

The Results

Users reported spending significantly less time planning meals each week. Dietary goal adherence improved noticeably compared to their previous approaches.
